Wedding
Congratulations!
A wedding in church is a joyful and sacred occasion, where a couple make their promises to one another before God, in the presence of family and friends. It is a celebration of love, commitment, and faithfulness — set within a place that has been a centre of prayer and worship for generations. The beauty and reverence of a church wedding offer a profound sense that marriage is not simply a private agreement, but a lifelong covenant, blessed by God and supported by the prayers of the Christian community.
During the service, the couple exchange vows, give and receive rings, and receive God’s blessing on their life together. Through Bible readings, prayers, and hymns, we give thanks for the gift of love and ask for God’s guidance in the years ahead. A church wedding is both deeply personal and wonderfully timeless — a moment to cherish, marking the beginning of a new chapter grounded in faith and hope.
What Marriage Means in Church
In the Christian tradition, marriage is a gift from God — a lifelong partnership built on love, trust, forgiveness, and mutual support. When a couple marry in church, they are not only making promises to one another, but also inviting God to be at the heart of their relationship. The vows spoken are solemn and joyful, expressing a commitment “for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health,” reflecting the depth and strength of the promise being made.
At St Thomas à Becket’s, St Richard Aldwick, we believe a church wedding is more than a beautiful ceremony; it is the beginning of a shared journey, rooted in faith. We are here to support couples as they prepare for their marriage and as they begin their life together, offering prayer, encouragement, and a warm welcome into the life of the church community.
